Gibbet Lore : Review, Euan Andrews Rock A Rolla Mar/Apr 2009
Gibbet Lore is essentially a duo featuring Francis Booth on a wide variety of instrumentation and his son Marc Booth on vocals. The knowledge that Marc committed suicide shortly after this project’s completion instantly makes the listener aware that nay glib response to these songs would be to deny the harrowing circumstances surrounding them. Essentially, these are songs about death. Inspired by the raw blues of Blind Lemon Jefferson and Willie Dixon, with a side order of Tom Waits in his bleakest bottom-of-the-glass mode, this is music with all the comfort blankets removed.
